03/04/2021EPA Webinar: The Mapping Inequality Project

The Mapping Inequality Project created a foundational resource for unprecedented research, education, organizing, and policy advocacy on redlining and current environmental challenges. It provides publicly accessible digitized versions of redlining maps for about 200 cities. This has already generated an explosion of trailblazing work in the area of environmental justice (EJ) and systemic racism. Two of its founders will discuss the genesis, philosophy, methodology, and impact of this game changing project. [Information]

03/16/2021DOE Webinar: Leveling the SLOPE: Helping State and Local Governments Reach Their Energy Goals

For many state and local governments establishing energy and environmental goals, the ability to make data-driven decisions about cost-effective opportunities is hindered by the data itself. Dispersed, unintegrated, and sometimes inaccessible data makes data-driven energy planning too expensive or time-intensive to pursue, preventing them from achieving their goals. To address this issue, DOE developed the State and Local Planning for Energy (SLOPE) Platform, an online tool that integrates dozens of distinct sources of energy efficiency, renewable energy, and sustainable transportation data and analysis into an easy-to-access platform. This webinar will demonstrate SLOPE’s functionality and provide examples of SLOPE’s application in assisting state and local energy planning. [Information]

03/17/2021EPA Webinar: Introducing EPA’s Benchmarking & Building Performance Standards Policy Toolkit

Join this webinar to learn about the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) new Benchmarking & Building Performance Standards Policy Toolkit. Are you a state or local decision maker interested in exploring policies to reduce the energy and carbon footprints of your existing buildings? Join this webinar to learn about EPA’s new Benchmarking & Building Performance Standards Policy Toolkit. This Toolkit aims to inform and support state and local governments who are exploring adopting policies focused on reducing energy use and greenhouse gas emissions from existing commercial and multifamily buildings in their communities. The Toolkit offers an overview of building energy benchmarking and transparency; an overview of building performance standards; opportunities for cross-jurisdictional coordination including between state and local governments; and strategies for ensuring solutions are in place that provide access to utility data. EPA experts will walk through the Toolkit, provide an overview of key considerations for policy design, and describe opportunities for EPA technical assistance and further resources, including information on using EPA’S ENERGY STAR® Portfolio Manager® tool as a backbone of program implementation. 03/26/2021Evolving Enforcement & Compliance Issues in 2021: A Conversation

As 2021 gets underway, enforcement and compliance issues in the water sector continue their rapid evolvement from 2020, exacerbated in many ways by the COVID-19 pandemic, water utility operational challenges last year, and the changing landscape of EPA enforcement priorities. This 45-minute conversation between experts in enforcement and compliance issues from the legal and utility operations communities will share their insights and expertise on key developments and trends in enforcement and compliance activities among the various EPA Regions, including: how specific enforcement actions are being successfully addressed by utilities in this changing environment; proactive steps that water utilities can take to pre-empt or successfully manage key enforcement related actions; and likely trends in enforcement and some compliance activities by EPA and the States under the new Administration.
